Why choose Daycover for weekend van insurance?

What is
weekend van insurance?

Weekend van insurance may help when a car is too small for your plans. Whether you are moving belongings or collecting furniture, quote for the full period from collection to return. A bank-holiday weekend may need longer than two days.

How much does weekend van insurance cost?

The price shown in your quote is for the driver, vehicle and period you select. Compare the options available for the time you need, including any excess and optional extras. Temporary insurance may suit occasional use; an annual policy may be better value if you drive the vehicle regularly.

Choosing the right cover period for weekend van insurance.

Choose enough time for the whole journey, including the return trip. Check the quoted start and end times rather than relying on a label such as ‘daily’ or ‘monthly’. If your plans change, make sure valid cover is in place before continuing to drive.

Weekend van insurance FAQs

Can you get weekend van insurance on a van you hire?

No you can’t take out weekend van insurance on a hired van. Short term weekend insurance allows you to borrow a van and insure it, rather than insure a hired van.

Do not use ordinary temporary van cover for courier or paid delivery work unless the policy expressly permits it. The main DayCover van pages exclude those activities.

You cannot legally drive a new van home without insurance. If you have an accident you won’t be insured, even if it is new and you haven’t sorted a new policy yet. Short term weekend van insurance is very easy to set up from anywhere, so you want to avoid ever driving without the appropriate insurance required by law.

To get weekend van insurance from us at Daycover, you’ll need to have a full UK driving licence for at least 12 months.

DayCover’s published Terms of Business say temporary policies cannot be extended and do not renew automatically. If you need more time, request a new quote before the existing policy ends. A new policy is subject to acceptance; check its start time to avoid a gap.

Yes you can take out multiple weekend van insurance policies in a year, but there will come a point that if you’re always insuring the same van, that an annual policy would be more cost-effective.

It’s important to know what weekend van insurance does not cover. You’re only insured for the carriage of your own goods. This means it’s suitable for personal use or transporting your own tools and equipment. It does not cover any form of hire or reward, including courier work, delivery driving, or using the van as part of a delivery service. If you’re earning money from transporting goods, you’ll need specialist commercial or courier insurance instead.

You’re also not covered if you’re driving a hired or rental van, a specific rental vehicle insurance policy is required for that.

The van must be physically located in the UK at both the start and end of the policy. Weekend van insurance is not valid for importing or exporting vehicles or for driving outside of the UK, EU, or EEA.

Yes you can use weekend van insurance to get an MOT on your van, but it must be for a pre-booked MOT appointment.

Check whether assistance is offered as an optional extra in your quote. Do not assume it is included in the van policy.

Weekend van insurance: good to know

Your annual policy may not insure you to drive another person's car. Where Driving Other Cars cover is included, it often provides third-party-only protection. Check your certificate and policy wording before relying on it.
